Tips, Notes and Special remark
  • Rathkinda bungalow must be booked early since there were many bookings when we tried.
  • It’s better if you can carry a stock of water for drinking purposed.
  • If you need to have a safari need to have your own transportation.
  • There is no wildlife department entrance to park.
  • Food is nice and chargers are reasonable but do not order tea or coffee they charger around 30-40 rupees for a cup. Too much.
  • If you are taking food to have a BBQ then corkage will be charged.
  • There is a electric fence in front of bungalow to keep the elephants away (power will be on by night only)

My mates start the trip from Colombo by 4am in morning and joined them from Ambepussa junction by 6.15am. 21 crew on a Toyota Coaster was our media of transport. We had everything for two days (Lunch, Dinner, breakfast is from bungalow) but we carried drinking water and things need for a BBQ dinner.

The drive to Mahiyanganaya was effortless but from there onwards I bet many time we wished we used our own 4X4 transportation. There was no road construction done for few ages.so the next 20Km was too slow.

I have never been to Maduru Oiya and out of 21 only 4 people had shier wilderness experience. So to have a difference taste we chose this place. But everyone agreed the scenery is breath taking and nice place to relax. Bungalow can accommodate around 25 people comfortably.

elephant footsteps

My lone searching on dam area result of some elephant footsteps. Not less than 1-2 days older

Evening my mates went for a ride to see a farm but since I spend my childhood with farmers I decide to stay back and do some site seen. i found some foot prints of

Elephant but was 1-2 days old. I was alone but it was very much relaxing. The breeze from the reservoir cools off the hot climate.

Evening the caretakers helped us to prepare a BBQ diner. A friend of mine was the chef and it was marvelous. In the night moonlight light up the reservoir and it was very beautiful which we spend until about 2am with some singing session which was very much fun

Night was color full with BBQ dinner.

A good morning walk in the fresh sand

Next day early morning had a morning walk in the fresh sand which we rarely get the chance. The breakfast and lunch provided from the rathkinda bungalow caretakers and the chargers was reasonable and it was good too. After the breakfast we head back to Colombo which took us about another 8 hours.
